Hello

Hi, I’m Claire – owner of Tails of Suburbia. I set up Tails of Suburbia because I have always had a passion for dogs, cats, rabbits, horses and hamsters. I worked for eight years as a Therapeutic Horse Riding Instructor for children with special needs in Dubai. At the same time, I was also caring for peoples’ pets while they travelled.

I have my own German Short Haired Pointer called Jazz and have previously owned Border Collies. I have diplomas in Pet Sitting and Dog Walking, Pet Psychology and Canine Communication, and I also have a current pet first-aid certificate. I am fully insured and security cleared (DBS). And above all, I offer a professional, honest, friendly and reliable service.

When I am with your pets they will have my undivided attention. I will follow your specific instructions (dietary, medical, playtimes, etc). And I will email or text while you’re away to put your mind at rest. You can call me anytime, day or night, if you have any concerns.

I mainly offer my dog walking and pet sitting services in Blaydon and surrounding areas. Please get in touch for more information.

My Services

A brief overview of some of the services I offer. Please get in touch for further information.

Dog Walking

Your dog could be enjoying an hour or half-hour walk while you are at work or away from home. Together we’ll work out the times and where you would like your dog(s) walked. This can be a regular arrangement or as and when needed.

Pet Sitting

While you are away from home, feel happy knowing that your pets are still getting cared for in their own environment. Enjoying playtime or a cuddle whilst adding a little extra security to your home. Together we’ll work out the preferred days and times needed.

On-Call Emergency

Ever get held back at work? Working away at short notice? Going into hospital? Having a baby? I am available to be on-call to feed or exercise your pets as and when needed.

Pet Taxi Service

I can take and pick up your pets from the vets for you, saving you from taking time off work.

My Prices

Dog Walking

Dogs can be walked in a group or individually. Your dog will need to be up-to-date with vaccinations and not display signs of aggression towards other dogs. Dogs will always be walked on a lead unless off-lead is preferred and agreed.

Puppies can be taken on short walks on the lead two weeks after their second vaccination. Group walking is not recommended for puppies aged under 20 weeks.

I will endeavour to walk your dog(s) at the requested time, however, there may be slight variation in timing.  I will ask you where you would prefer me to walk your dog to keep them to a familiar routine.

I will also ask if your dog can be walked with other dogs. I will walk a maximum of five dogs at any time.

Prices for puppies will be confirmed at consultation, as a shorter walk may be incorporated with time at home to play. The fee will also be dependent on how many daily visits are required.

I may be able to offer a Puppy or Elderly Dog package, which includes twice-daily visits (mid-morning and afternoon). This helps to break up the day and ensure that your puppy/elderly dog is being regularly checked on. I can tidy away any wet newspaper or training pads and let your puppy/elderly dog out into the garden for play. This can be a temporary service until your puppy is ready to be left for longer periods, or is house trained. Please ask for details. (This service can only be offered for people living within a 5-mile radius of Blaydon and is limited to two visits per day).

£10 per 1/2-hour solo walk (£3.00 for additional dogs from the same owner at the same address)
£12.00 per hourly group walk or £13 for a 45 min solo walk
£9.50 per half hour for after 6:30pm visits
£8 per visit (20 mins each visit) for Puppy or Elderly Dog Package
Pet Sitting

For dogs, puppies, elderly or handicapped pets, cats, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens or other small caged animals. Includes feeding, cuddling and playing, administering medication, cleaning out litter trays, etc, as required.

Be assured that your pets will be cared for in their own environment, while adding extra security to your home. My service is an alternative to catteries and kennels, ensuring as little disruption for your animals as possible. Keeping your pets in their own environment and routine helps keep them happy and you worry-free. Services are personalised to your exact instructions.

£8 per home visit up to 1/2 hour
£10.00 over 1/2 hour visit
Price includes up to 3 pets, please add £1.50 per additional pet
SMALL HOBBY FARM VISITS
£12.50 mucking out per stable, £15 including turn out £7 each per additional horse/stable

If you have a number of animals that need caring for such as horses, chickens, goats, pigs, etc. The price will be calculated per hourly rate, agreed through prior consultation.

Emergency / Pet Taxi

Please note – I will make sure your pet is comfortable, has water etc. before I leave them at home and can text you confirmation that they are home if you prefer.

£10.00 per journey to take your pet to or collect from your vets, within a five mile radius of Blaydon

Please read my full Terms and Conditions here

Please Note...

There will be a free, no obligation consultation that allows me to meet you and your pet(s), to agree tasks/services required, pick up a key, fill in paperwork and – most importantly – let your pet meet me.

I’m available seven days a week for pet sitting (although not for dog walking). I am very flexible when it comes to the best times of the day to visit your pets – there may be days when you prefer early morning or evening visits, and this can be arranged. I also work some Bank Holidays, although please note that Easter, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day will be charged at double rate.

All travel to and from your home is free if you live within a 5-mile radius of Blaydon.

Please note, If I am on holiday for the days you are require, I may be able to arrange for another pet sitter/dog walker to attend. The replacement would also be trustworthy, reliable, CRB checked and insured, and you would be encouraged to meet her prior to the service being delivered.

What my clients say

Claire looked after our pets during our holidays over several years. She used to look after our three dogs, several guinea pigs and my horse. Usually she stayed at ours so the pets wouldn't be on their own. She would not only walk the dogs but feed all the pets, clean cages and also exercise my horse. And of course, cuddle and pamper them all. Claire was so caring and loving, our dogs used to freak out with joy when seeing her. She was absolutely reliable and we could always travel without a guilty conscience of leaving our animals.

We highly recommend her as a professional pet sitter and thank her for everything she did for us and our pets.

Manuela Gruss - Lucy, Candy & Charlie

Claire is a great animal lover. Every time we meet at the dog park she is loved by all the dogs around her. We recently got a new Labrador puppy called Hennie. Claire looked after him for a couple of days and we couldn't of been happier.

Along with her dog Jazz, the two of them had a blast. It's such a relief to go away and know your dog is looked after and loved. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Claire to look after your furbaby too.

Eloise Smith - Hennie

Claire has looked after my 2 Boston terriers and walked them on numerous occasions. My dogs are very high maintenance and Claire just has that special touch with them and they are always happy to see her.

I would highly recommend Claire if you want someone to walk your dogs, she is absolutely amazing with all dogs big or small.

Nicolette Pollock - Angus & Amy

Using Tails of Surburbia has allowed me to go away with complete peace of mind. I know that my horse Rossko will be well cared for by Claire and appropriately exercised. While my house will be safe and secure whilst I am away. I would not hesitate to use Claire’s services again.

Gaynor Cummins - Rossko

I have a rescue Saluki/Desert dog. She can sometimes be a bit aggressive towards other dogs when walked on the leash and quite nervous in certain situations.

I have used Claire’s dog sitting services while we've been on holidays and I had total confidence to leave Amber in her hands as I knew she had lots of experience and I could trust her with my dog. I absolutely recommend her services and she will make sure your dog is happy, safe, exercised and well looked after.

Stephanie Graf - Amber

We used Claire's dog sitting service several times for our Malinois mix Shadow and our cat Ginger. Our dog is not easy to handle and needs a lot of exercise, attention and tasks during the day to keep her happy. Our cat on the other hand needs lots of cuddle time.

With Claire we know that more than their physical needs will be satisfied. We also like the fact that our pets can stay in their own environment. They are always happy to see Claire, (our dog even gets excited at the mention of her name), which keeps us happy and relaxed on holiday. Claire is extremely compassionate, dependable and honest and cares for other people’s pets as she would for her own. That’s why we can highly recommend her services.

Ralf Schielke - Shadow & Ginger

I have been working with Claire for more than six years for EAPD (Therapeutic Riding for disabled kids). During this time I have observed the dedication and sensitivity that she has for our horses. Every horse is very unique and Claire instantly adapts to their personality and needs. She knows when a horse needs a good run, needs a rest or feels unwell or just wants some tender loving care.

I have always admired her patience working with our horse either lunging, riding or administering medicine etc. She also has a perfect feeling for matching horses and kids. Not every horse is suitable for every child and his special needs. Thanks Claire for being such a valuable addition to our team. It has been a pleasure working with you.

Andrea Felten - Barn Manager EAPD

Claire has looked after our three cats many times over the past few years. She's really fantastic with animals, and does much more than just pet sitting.

On one occasion, Maggie (our boss cat) got into a fight with a neighbour's cat. Thankfully, while visiting Claire realised something wasn't right with her, saw she'd been bitten, and took her to the vet. She then visited her every day while she recovered, and kept us informed of her progress! I would highly recommend Claire to look after your pets.

Kerry Platts - Mama, Maggie & Orlando

I first met Claire at My Second Home in Dubai when my crazy Labrador Nova decided to steal Jazz’s ball and then tell her all about it (Nova was quite a vocal dog). I learnt very quickly that Claire has a passion for all animals, not just dogs. She has is very compassionate.

Claire was there for us in the time when we had to make a very tough call and was gracious enough to be with our dear Nova when she passed and we were out of the country. This is the kind of person I would definitely want looking after my dogs be it while at work or away on vacation. I would thoroughly recommend Claire and her services.

Brooke Dawson - Nova
